Just wanted to hear your thoughts about this. I have 3 in mind:

Andrae Patterson- came in as one of the top heralded prospects as a power forward. Never really blossomed into a force inside.

Joe Hillman- averaged 30 points in California. Another dud that never became the powerful scorer he was in high school.

George Leach- Knight heralded him as the next great center when he was a senior in North Carolina. Possessed terrible hands, mediocre footwork, and bad offensive skills.

Larry Bird....didn't have enough guts to stay on campus and learn from the greatest coach the game has ever seen. Imagine how good he could have been

Joe had character and was a very good player.

Joe hillman was NOT a dud nor was he overrated as a player. People seem to forget that Coach Knight NEVER or rarely changed his system to suit the payers style as many other excellent coaches do.I am not saying that this was wrong , just look at coach Knight's success rate but players were required to fill other roles when they played for IU under coach Knight.

Hillman could have transferred as did many, many other players (Delray Brooks went on to lead his conference in scoring after leaving IU) but he chose to stick it out and was a great contributer and competitor. Joes role was not a shooting role but a play maker.

My two cents

Glen Grunwald ....I say this becasue he was overated by the coach.....I know i groaned everytime Coach Knight put him in. Maybe he had heart and had tough luck with injuries....but oh my goodness

It is clear YOU do not understand the question. It's about the most over-rated "IU" basketball player. Bird survived maybe 2 weeks (under scholarship) on campus. Poor little Larry couldn't handle the big-campus. But it's more about he couldn't handle a tough-task master like Knight. I stand by my statement - Bird was heralded as the 2nd coming and he never even scratched in the IU program. All these other players contributed something....but lil ol' Larry contributed nothing! Therefore he has to be the most over-rated player......every other player (even Delray) at least "tried" to play in Knights system. Bird didn't have the guts to become a "better" player. By the way the departure of Delray from IU and Knight was a consesus by both AND it was Knight who put Pitino and Providence on to Delray. It would be nice if some of you people who respond to this blog had some basketball sense!
