Just wanted to hear your thoughts about this. I have 3 in mind:

Andrae Patterson- came in as one of the top heralded prospects as a power forward. Never really blossomed into a force inside.

Joe Hillman- averaged 30 points in California. Another dud that never became the powerful scorer he was in high school.

George Leach- Knight heralded him as the next great center when he was a senior in North Carolina. Possessed terrible hands, mediocre footwork, and bad offensive skills.

Hmmm. Not sure I can agree on Hillman, he ended up being valuable for the '87 and '88 teams.

I will also add:
Charlie Miller. The guy would have the annual breakout game against Purdue and then disappear.

Bracey Wright. Consider that his teammate was Deron Williams... and we got Bracey as part of the "Help Is On The Way"

Eggers-Mandeville.

I forgot about Mandeville, thanks. Another 7-footer and another California dud.

What about Delray Brooks, Ricky Calloway, there are many more.
All programs have players leave. All programs hype players' abulities. My guess would be that IU has not experienced any more or less that other big time programs.

This is to "Jay". You could not be more wrong about Delray Brooks. He was a very classy young man. Coach Knight decided he was not good enough to play. Delray busted his butt in practice, was an excellent student, a great teammate, always did the right things on and off the court. Knight told him to go elsewhere. He went to Providence and with Coach Pitino and Billy Donovan-now coach at FL with 2 NCAA Championships- showed what 3 guards running around and hitting 3-point shots could do in college basketball. Despite how Knight mistreated him, Delray has always said great things about IU and Indiana.

I would tend to agree with Mandeville, Andrea Patterson and my third is Marco Killingsworth. Mandeville...a 7' foot flop, only thing worse than his skills was his attitude. Patterson...this guy had a great basketball body, size, strength, running ability, etc. His problem was he thought he was 6' and 155 lbs. Yes, he'd have an occaisonally good game but when it was on the line he'd disappear. (He had a great game against Duke once but failed to realize he could do similarly game in and game out). Killingsworth.... another great basketball body but no idea how to use it to its potential. People crack on B.Knight, but he made players good players. As for Hillman, HIllman asked to come to IU. He was perfect IU player...knew his role, high BB IQ, played hard...should be considered an all time great as he subgigated his personal skills to enhance the betterment of the team. Under BK there were several "Joe Hillman" type stories... Chuck Franz was a HS scoring machine. At IU he looked lousy, that is until his senior year. He was flat out good college basketball player, and perfect for IU...again team over self. Considering his HS career vs. college what about Lyndon Jones? Again a solid if not spectacular IU career AND he graduated. Ask this how many IU transfers played for a team chasing a National Championship... Ricky Calloway, Bob Bender, DelRay Brooks, Chris Lawson, Mike Giomi, to name a few. Then ask yourself how many were never heard from again. Finally, look at how many IU players played highest caliber of basketball, especially those that played four years for BK. All in all, I guess I am saying that there really are not too many players I'd classify as failures.

How about Sean Kline? Wasn't he a McDonald's All-American out of high school? I can't remember for sure but I do remember hearing he was going to be the next great thing. I know he had some knee problems, but honestly, I can't remember him having one good game in his time at IU.

Does anyone here remember Uwe Blab?!! That one will always haunt me. "Stone Hands" was a work that never blossomed.

Uwe was indeed a wash, but he still was a first round draft pick (even though he was a dud in the NBA).

As for Sean Kline.....you can also blame him for the reason we did not go after Luke Harangody. Davis said, on the subject of recruiting Harangody, he did not want another Sean Kline.

1. Andre Patterson 2. Larry Richardson 3. Richard Mandeville

Larry Bird....didn't have enough guts to stay on campus and learn from the greatest coach the game has ever seen. Imagine how good he could have been

George Leach easy. As Coach Knight used to say. If you win (1) game for IU. You paid for your scholarship. I think Joe Hillman did that a few times. The same for Andrae Patterson.

How about John Flowers? Great athlete -- I think he was a state high school long jump champion. Some of the names mentioned I find strange. Uwe had a great game against N. Carolina in the 1984 NCAAs -- a game that might rank as the best victory outside of an NCAA title. Does anyone remember Hillman's game against UNLV in '87? Great drive to basket.
