Most overrated IU player of all-time?

Just wanted to hear your thoughts about this. I have 3 in mind:

Andrae Patterson- came in as one of the top heralded prospects as a power forward. Never really blossomed into a force inside.

Joe Hillman- averaged 30 points in California. Another dud that never became the powerful scorer he was in high school.

George Leach- Knight heralded him as the next great center when he was a senior in North Carolina. Possessed terrible hands, mediocre footwork, and bad offensive skills.

Everyone was so down on him and I have never seen an athlete who tried so hard get bashed like that. I understand if he did something wrong off the court like rob someone, but he has more heart than any of you who sit on here and bash him.

Blame Davis for making him a 4, when he was a natural 3...I hate to see players be "molded" into something they're not.

I am done ranting...

You'd think of all the opportunity he had with gym access he should have been a much better shooter at least. And if the mental part of the game is "like 4 is to 5", he still underachieved. Look at the Knight teams before and after Pat Knight and you'll see a huge difference. When asked by The Mentor as to why Evansville was playing off of him, Jim Crews replied he was trying to keep Patrick from picking them apart. How could he keep from laughing!; ▶ Reply to This

In high school, he was nails from the 3 point arch and could put it on the floor with anyone. I could have seen him being a Kitchel type player in Knights system. Unfortunate that he got caught up in Davis mess. Under the circumstances, he would have been better off at Michigan State or Notre Dame.; ▶ Reply to This

Growing up here in Bloomington and close to long time season ticket holders(family). Knight was famous for taking great players and making them average but taking average players and making great teams! As for Hillman, well Knight had his All-American go to guy in Alford so Hillman did not have the green light to shoot lights out like Steve did. Hillman was made into a passer. Knight was a damn good coach but behind the times. I feel if he would have started 10-15years earlier(late 50's early60's) then he would have had more of his type of players. His biggest mistake was BIRD and his luckiest was #11 I.Thomas(81")
Knight never changed himself to adjust to his in coming players, he triied to change the players to fit his style. Coach K. learned from Knight but is more open mindedand adjusts to his boys, so he will break his records. I'm am a die-hard and will always love my Hoosiers but the truth is the truth.; ▶ Reply to This

Permalink Reply by NDfan4life on March 20, 2009 at 11:05am: My 2 cents: Ironically, I had a chance to chat with Sean Kline a little while watching the NCAA tourney lastnight in Ft Wayne. He seems like a good guy. I agree with MILLERTIME, he was a guy that busted his butt and did his best, but the knee let him down, and the change in coaches didn't help either. He was good in high school but not a "superior" athlete like Chris Kramer @ Purdue while at Huntington North. Give these guys a break though, they are 18 year old kids. For some guys it works out and other is doesn't, just the luck of the draw. He didn't sulk or pout when things didn't go his way, he took his lumps and carried on. The main thing is that Kline represented IU well and got an education. Sean is ok in my book and should be proud of his time there and what he accomplished!; ▶ Reply to This

Permalink Reply by Chad on August 5, 2009 at 5:29pm: Charlie Miller is first...was supposed to be a lights out threat but never showed the percentages. Andrae Patterson is next, for his distaste for physical play. A.J. Ratliff also failed to deliver on his high school promise.

In defense of Killingsworth, his problem was that M.D. used him too damn much. How many times that season did you have to watch four other players dish the ball to each other on the perimeter, only to watch them punch it in to Killingsworth, who was promptly mugged by three guys? Davis could not design another offense...
