Just wanted to hear your thoughts about this. I have 3 in mind:

Andrae Patterson- came in as one of the top heralded prospects as a power forward. Never really blossomed into a force inside.

Joe Hillman- averaged 30 points in California. Another dud that never became the powerful scorer he was in high school.

George Leach- Knight heralded him as the next great center when he was a senior in North Carolina. Possessed terrible hands, mediocre footwork, and bad offensive skills.

what about Luke Recker?

LOL @ Larry Bird !!! I do believe he turned into a great player at ISU . He sure wouldn't have been the same player at IU , no way !!!!

Kevin Burton....last time I checked ISU is NOT IU....that probably confused you.....

Damon Bailey-Lets be realistic. He was a "good" college player but was the most visible and highly touted IU recruit/legend in Indiana basketball history. Never performed (in college) up to his press clippings and the accolades written in On the Brink. More ink in high school than even George McGinnis, Eric Gordon or Kent Benson.

Bracey Wright-Was susppose to be next IU Phenom

Andrae Patterson-(see Bracey Wright)

no steve you're right , ISU isn't the same as IU , i'm as disappointed as you that he decided to leave , but , if you truly believe he would have been better by staying , you obviously need to get your head examined !!!!!

Kevin, Kevin, Kevin....

I thought we had worked through this...first it was the difference between IU and isu....now you can't figure out the difference between being coached by BOB KNIGHT versus bill hodges...you really don't get it......

I do get it steve , sure i'll agree that coach knight was by far superior as far as that goes, in fact, no coach can compare with him at all. I'm saying he wouldn't have had the freedom at IU that he was afforded at ISU and even you'll have to agree birds place in history is phenomenal. His work ethic made him the player he was, not a coach. Sorry to disagree, but, stats don't lie !!!!

Kevin -

All I ever said he was the most disappointing - he was enrolled, but never played. Poor Larry thought the campus was too big...I came from a smaller high school then he did and I had no problem. I think he was intimidated by Knight and decided to "run" versus gut it up. He's one of my all-time GREAT players - he got more bang for the buck than any player who played the game, but no one will ever convince me his stats would not have been better. All GREAT players have GREAT coaches (Tiger, Jack, Ted Williams, Jerry West, etc.)...anyhow I understand what you are saying and by the way Isaiah, May, Chaney, Alford and a lot of other IU players did flourish in the Knight system. When Knight had a scoring machine he would run his offense through the player (with many options to other players also)...believe me Bob Knight would have run the Hoosiers offense through Bird - if it was necessary.

Luke recker def ranks up there....this kid was a bust at all three schools he played at and a peice of work off the court!
Mandeville was terrible as well but I can't hate on Andrae Patterson....his single handed 45 pt performance in the garden against Duke to win the Preseason NIT was worthy of justifying him a success.

Joe hillman was NOT a dud nor was he overrated as a player. People seem to forget that Coach Knight NEVER or rarely changed his system to suit the payers style as many other excellent coaches do.I am not saying that this was wrong , just look at coach Knight's success rate but players were required to fill other roles when they played for IU under coach Knight.

Hillman could have transferred as did many, many other players (Delray Brooks went on to lead his conference in scoring after leaving IU) but he chose to stick it out and was a great contributer and competitor. Joes role was not a shooting role but a play maker.

My two cents

Amen to Paul...it's good to see someone has some sense about what makes a good team player versus what too many of these idiots think are bust!
