Lets face it, IU looked rec against mexico. Alston really looked like he was the only one that should really belong with them. The rest of the defense looke less than impressive. It will help with Sarcodi coming back, but the outside backs look really skeptical.

I am not a big soccer fan, but I like to see any IU sports program be successful. I have noticed that since Coach Yeagley retired that IU seems to be slowly losing the elite status it use to have. Are we not landing the big recruits that we used to when Yeagley was the coach, or have we just had an off year or two?

yeagley had a nice mixture of guys. he brought in the top players in the country, some kids from indiana and the surounding states, and forgien kids mostly from europe, but frietag just seams to go after the all americans and its tuff to get them to gell as a team. Also, we just have found a finisher the past couple years.

Clearly Alston has overcome the injuries that slowed him in his first two years at Indiana. He's a difference-maker, and with Sarkodie -- who he has played with on the back line for years and years -- returning to the team there's a solid core to build around.

I don't expect either of the other two backs that played against Mexico, Rich Balchan and Daniel Kelly, to end up there full time. I think Indiana's coaching staff is fairly certain that recruit Tommy Meyer will be able to come in and play early, and there are other possibilities to fill out the defense. Will be interesting to see how it plays out.

with sarcodi coming back, even if the outside backs are suspect, the defense should be solid, but i don't know where the scoring is gonna come from. IU has a lot of guys that are capable of creating, but they just don't have that guy that can put a ball in the back of the net.
